Worksites: Healthy Meeting Challenge
Steps to a HealthierMN-Willmar is challenging you to create a healthier environment through policy implemenation. Join our efforts to improve the health of Willmar residents by following the Steps to a Healthier MN-Willmar’s Healthy Meeting Guidelines. If your organization is ready to provide a healthier meeting environment for your employees and partners, please sign and mail in the attached pledge and you will receive a Healthy Meeting Certificate in the mail.  Pledges are due by August 1, 2009.

Willmar is located approximately 100 miles west of the Twin Cities in Kandiyohi County. 

 

·         With a population of 19,000, the city is a regional center for West Central Minnesota. 

 

·         Willmar has the third largest Hispanic/Latino population in Minnesota and a growing Somali population. 

 

·         Willmar Public Schools serve 4,255 students in K-12.

 

·         Kandiyohi County Public Health is the lead agency for Steps to a HealthierMN - Willmar.

 

 
Monitoring and Evaluation

 

Community capacity and activities, risk behaviors, the disease burdens of asthma, diabetes, and obesity, and provider care practices are the key measures being monitored among youth, adults, and high risk populations in Willmar.

The major data sources are:

  • Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS)
  • Youth Risk factor and Behavioral Survey (YRBS)

The BRFSS is being conducted annually and the YRBS biennually. The first YRBS was implemented at the Willmar Senior High on March 7, 2007.
